Common questions

What are all the fees Etsy charges sellers?
Four main ones: a $0.20 listing fee every time you publish or renew a listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping charged to buyer, a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 per order, and an Offsite Ads fee of 12–15% if Etsy drives a sale through external advertising. Most sellers are paying all four on every order.
How does Etsy calculate the transaction fee?
Etsy takes 6.5% of the combined total of your item price and the shipping amount you charge the buyer. So if you list at $30 with $6 shipping, the fee is 6.5% of $36, which works out to $2.34. Charge more for shipping and the transaction fee goes up with it.
Why does my actual Etsy payout feel lower than expected?
Because the fees compound. The transaction fee, processing fee, and listing fee all hit the same order. Plus if you're enrolled in Offsite Ads (voluntarily or because you're above $10K), that's another 12–15% on top. Sellers who haven't run the numbers often discover they're keeping 60–70 cents on every dollar they charge.
