Common questions

How much does eBay take from each sale?
eBay charges a final value fee of 13.25% on the total sale amount — item price plus whatever shipping you charge the buyer — up to $7,500. On the portion above $7,500 the rate drops to 2.35%. Payment processing is included in that fee, which is actually simpler than Amazon and Etsy where processing is charged separately.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 13.25% final value fee applies to the full transaction total including buyer-paid shipping. If you list an item at $40 and charge $10 for shipping, eBay calculates the fee on $50. Offering free shipping doesn't lower your fees — it just means you absorb the postage yourself.
How does eBay compare to Amazon and Etsy for fees?
eBay's 13.25% all-in fee (including payment processing) is often the simplest and most predictable. Amazon adds a referral fee plus FBA costs, which can run 25–35% combined. Etsy layers a transaction fee, listing fee, and processing fee — typically 13–16% total before your own shipping costs. Which is cheapest depends on your category, price point, and whether you use FBA.
